Koran Board
Niger
#A-95
A good older Hausa Quran slate or "alu" collected in the 1960's. These are used for teaching Arabic to young students just as slate boards were used for centuries in the West. The boards are washed clean and reused but finally are inscribed by a cleric with passages from the Koran. Then they are kept as talismans.
