Mongol Amulet Thangka Gau 1
Mongolia#A-72
The Mongols use miniature thangkas (zurags) in amulets like this. These will also be kept on portable altars in a ger (yurt). Zurags are done in gouache just as are larger silk-mounted hanging thangkas. The image is Vajrabhairava. Encased in copper, this one is ca. 1880-1920's.
